Business Law in Europe

Description

Are you interested in doing business with EU countries? Then this is the programme for you! The programme consists of three separate distance learning courses, which you can also choose to take as a package. The programme is aimed at students, professionals, or simply interested in the European Union and European business law. No prior knowledge of law or the EU is required and the programme is taught in English.

General information

The courses give you an overview of the basics of European business law, which is useful for those who want to operate or do business with companies outside and inside the Union.

You can choose to apply for the courses as three separate courses covering five (5) credits each, or as a package of courses covering 15 credits. Each module corresponds to three and a half (3.5) weeks of full-time study and the package corresponds to ten (10) weeks of full-time study.

Each course includes video lectures, a number of compulsory self-correcting tests and an final essay.

Course 1: European Business Law – Understanding the Fundamentals

The course examines the foundations of EU law and is given as a web-based independent course. The course consists of five (5) credits over three and a half (3,5) weeks of full-time studies (100 % study pace). The course contains mandatory quizzes and a written assignment. The written assignment is worth five (5) credits.

Course 2: European Business Law – Doing Business in Europe

The course examines transactions, employment, taxes, and cross-border disputes and is given as a web-based independent course. The course consists of five (5) credits over three and a half (3,5) weeks of full-time studies (100 % study pace). The course contains mandatory quizzes and a written assignment. The written assignment is worth five (5) credits.

Course 3: European Business Law – Competing in Europe

The course examines intellectual property law and competition law and is given as a web-based independent course. The course consists of five (5) credits over three and a half (3,5) weeks of full-time studies (100 % study pace). The course contains mandatory quizzes and a written assignment. Course design

Lectures

For each branch of law there are several pre-recorded video lectures accessible through the learning platform Blackboard. The video lectures are freely available on-demand, allowing you to plan your studies to accomodate your schedule.

Course literature and statutes

In addition to the lectures, you are expected to read the course literature and the relevant statutes. The compulsory reading material is listed in the reading list.

Quizzes

Each module finishes with a mandatory multiple-choice quiz to assess your knowledge. The quizzes are mandatory and can be done several times. The quizzes must be completed with a passing grade in order to submit the final written assignment.

Written assignment

The written assignment is the final part of each course and will test your knowledge in the different branches of law covered by the course.

 

Assessment

Your will be assessed by participation in obligatory quizzes and the written assignments. Each written assignment is worth five (5) credits, and the final grade of each course is based on the student’s achieved result of the written assignment.

Selection criteria

Seats are allocated according to the following: The general average (GPA) of your higher secondary school leaving certificate: 34 %, The Swedish national university aptitude test: 34 %, number of previous ECTS at application deadline (up to 165): 32 %. If students have equal credentials, seats are allocated based on their results on The Swedish National University Aptitude Test. If this too is equal, seats are allocated based on a draw.

English language requirements

Most of Lund University’s programmes require English Level 6 (unless otherwise stated under 'Entry requirements'). This is the equivalent of an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 90. There are several ways to prove your English language proficiency – check which proof is accepted at the University Admissions in Sweden website. All students must prove they meet English language requirements by the deadline, in order to be considered for admission.

  • Prepare programme-specific documents if stated in the next paragraph on this webpage.
  • Upload or send all required documents to University Admissions before the document deadline.
  • Pay the application fee (if applicable – refer to the section below on this webpage) before the document deadline.

Application fee

If you are required to pay tuition fees, you are generally also required to pay an application fee of SEK 900 when you apply at the University Admissions in Sweden website. You pay one application fee regardless of how many programmes or courses you apply to.
