What Duarte says about the Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Duarte from Portugal
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself and your educational background?
"I began my studies at the University of Lisbon in Electrical and Computer Engineering, but quickly found that that is not my passion and switched to Industrial Engineering and Management at the same university."
Why did you choose Lund University and why did this particular programme appeal to you?
"Actually, I first came to Lund as an exchange student in the spring of 2022, and the courses I was taking were from the Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Beforehand, I had applied to the same Master’s and then I found out I was accepted to the programme in the middle of my exchange, late March."
About the programme and the academic environment
Why should prospective students choose this programme? Do you have a favourite course?
"For me, the overall structure of the Master’s is what appealed to me. Naturally, different people favour different topics in the field of Supply Chain. I had an interest in all areas and each course covered that."
What do you think of the teaching style and the way of studying here? What are the lecturers and professors like?
"I find that the professors are caring and available if students approach them. Lectures have a good pace with breaks every 45–60 min or so."
What is the academic/learning environment like?
"It is friendly. Since we are a lot less students compared to my Bachelor´s programme, everyone talks to everyone which creates a sense of community."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies so far?
"Yes, as a teaching assistant and SI."
Have you had any opportunities for networking within the programme? Do you work with companies?
"We have worked with companies on some group projects but so far no networking has resulted in a job opportunity."
Being an international student in Lund and future plans
What it is like to be an international student at Lund University and how international is your programme?
"Amazing! Our programme mainly consists of international students, especially in the fall semester. You get to meet a lot of international exchange students if you take part in student life as well."
How do you like living in Sweden? Did you feel welcome here? What surprised you most about Sweden?
"I do like it. The first thing I noticed is how people enjoy the little things like spending time in the sun and eating outside on campus.
Lund especially is a student city, which I find very exciting because I had never experienced it before. It is also colder than what I’m accustomed to."
What is studying in Sweden like compared to studying in your country or other countries you studied in?
"I would say the study experience differs in aspects such as number of classes – I was used to having more and here we have more time outside of lectures for developing our projects."
What are the highlights of your time here so far?
"Definitely the trips I did to Norway and Lapland."
What are you planning to do after your studies?
"I am planning to find a job in the field of Supply Chain."
