This report is a study of literature found in the field of energy use in single-family houses. It is to be regarded as a first phase, part of the project "Sustainable energy use in houses". The literature examined refers to, predominantly, Swedish conditions, including Swedish building technique and the Nordic climate. The objectives of the report are to present topics of interest, found in literature, regarding: (1) The energy use in houses, especially modern single-family houses. (2) The performance over time for building components and services affecting the energy use in houses. (3) The influence of the residents of the house on the energy use.
