Denna uppsats ger en redogörelse för den forskning som stödjer ståndpunkten att UG inte är tillgänglig eller relevant när man lär sig ett andraspråk i vuxenålder. Uppsatsens teoretiska underlag grundas på the no-access view, som argumenterar att UG inte alls är tillgänglig för den vuxne L2-inläraren. I uppsatsens andra del förklaras UG och dess centrala koncept (poverty of the stimulus, principer och parametrar). The no-access view och the critical period period hypothesis sammanfattas också för att senare diskuteras i förhållande till UG och vuxna L2-inlärare i uppsatsens tredje del. Uppsatsens tredje del diskuterar alla de 4 förutnämnda koncepten (poverty of the stimulus, principer, parametrar och the critical period hypothesis) utifrån the no-access view’s teoretiska ståndpunkt. Diskussionens resultat visar att det finns substantiellt bevis och starka teoretiska iakttagelser som styrker the no-access view’s validitet.
