Summary, in English

This is a summary report of two integrated three year projects "Fire safety design based on

calculations" and "Performance based fire safety design". The total project has been subdivided into several part projects: general principles for risk assessment, evacuation safety of public buildings, hotels and health care buildings, calculation of safety factors, calculation of model uncertainties, uncertainties in input data. A kcy concept has been analysis of uncertainty. Two main risk assessment methods have been studied: the reliability index ß method and the event-tree evaluation method. The study has demonstrated and illustrated the practical application of basic risk and assessment methods and provided the foundation for a general design methodology based on performance and the concept of risk.
