Summary, in English

After World War II the food sector in Sweden developed very quickly, following the example of the USA. The introduction of frozen food and self-service stores were rated as the major innovations since 1945, followed more recently by chilled products. For these products both packaging and an efficient supply chain are prerequisites. The innovations were supported by changes in society and by governmental actions. Canned food paved the way for increased convenience, as cans for food became licensed from the States after the war, but frozen food needed a new supply chain and new packaging. The packaging companies seized their opportunities after the war. Some of them developed into international players that are now part of bigger multinational companies, like PLM-Rexam and Å&R-Amcor, or expanded worldwide on their own with a unique offering, e.g. the aseptic packaging system by Tetra Pak, earlier Å&R.

Frigoscandia became the supplier and expert in freezing technology, storage and distribution equipment and still is, as part of FMC, world leader in freezing technology.
