‘Death to Denmark!’: Deciphering a Global Event

Author

Summary, in English

This paper analyzes Danish reactions to the Muhammad cartoon caricature crisis, emphasizing the three narratives that dominate the discussion following the protests against the publication of the 12 cartoons in the Danish newspaper Jyllandsposten. The narratives were: freedom of speech versus intimidation by Muslims; harrasment of Muslims; and as a sign of failed integration of Muslims into Danish society. Calls for apologies dominate all three discourses.
