Author

Summary, in English

The purpose of this master thesis is divided into two parts. The first part intend to investigate in what way Swedish teachers in secondary school use the method reading aloud in their classroom teaching and what their opinion about reading aloud is. The second part intend to investigate secondary school students´ attitudes regarding reading aloud. The theories used are Judith Langer´s world of ideas for reading and Lev Vygotsky´s zone of proximal development. Three interviews with four different teachers aimed to investigate the first part of this master thesis. The second part was investigated with an online survey which was answered by 100 students from three different schools. The results from the interviews show that the teachers use reading aloud in various ways. Moreover, the teachers agree that reading aloud is an important part of the subject Swedish. Furthermore, the results from the survey show that a majority of the students are positive to reading aloud. The results also show that the boys are more positive to reading aloud than the girls. In the final part of this master thesis is a discussion regarding the results from the interviews and the survey, and also my choice of methods used.
