Grundkursen - en ny start på läkarutbildningen vid Lunds universitet

The introductory course--a new start of medical education at the University of Lund

Author

Summary, in English

A new eight-week introductory course to the medical program has been developed and launched. The core idea is to give the students an overview of the program in order to understand how its different parts are interrelated. Central themes include research as part of clinical practice, the role of the doctor as a professional and the different working methods of the program, in particular the problem-based learning method. The overall aim of the course is to facilitate the transition from upper secondary school to professional training at medical school. The students are enthusiastic about the course although the portfolio and research elements are not fully appreciated by all of them. A firm management and decision-making process has been essential for the successful introduction of this major change in the program.
