Professor Jan Sundquist conducts research on common conditions among primary care patients such as treatment of depression, anxiety and stress-related disorders. In order to answer medical questions that are relevant especially in primary care, Jan Sundquist and his research colleagues use various scientific methods such as advanced statistical methods for complex analysis of registry data, randomised clinical studies, experimental studies, and implementation of new treatment methods in primary care. The research takes place at the Center for Primary Health Care Research (CPF), which is a collaboration between Lund University and Region Skåne.

The project, for which Jan Sundquist has now been awarded an ERC grant, is called “The impact of neighbourhoods, peers and families on psychiatric disorders, substance use disorders and crime in first- and second-generation immigrants.

Jan Sundquist and his colleagues are to identify multi-level factors in residential areas and among peers and families that can protect against psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders among first and second-generation immigrants.

“To receive such a large grant is very pleasing and a recognition of our platform, founded through a collaboration between Lund University and Region Skåne almost 10 years ago. But it’s also a recognition for all those involved in the research platform.”

“The grant gives me and my colleagues the opportunity to develop research at Lund University focusing on psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders in vulnerable individuals. The grant also provides an opportunity for us to test new ideas together with our eminent colleagues”, concludes Jan Sundquist.
