Lund University welcomes 800 new international students

Students at the airport with mentors

Tuesday 9 January is Arrival Day, when international students arrive at Lund University from around the world.

The University receives students from over 130 countries. During the spring semester, approximately 800 new international students are expected to start their studies at Lund University. On Arrival Day, some 450 students are expected to arrive.

These students include:

  • About 550 exchange students
  • About 30 program students at master's level
  • About 250 program students at bachelor's level, Double degree students, Joint program students and Swedish Study Abroad students.

On Arrival Day, staff from Lund University welcome the students at Copenhagen airport starting at 7:30am. When they arrive at the Central Station in Lund, they are met by international mentors who drive them to the Ingvar Kamprad Design Center (IKDC). At IKDC they are checked in, provided with information, given keys, and driven to their accommodation. Arrival Day at IKDC closes at 20:00.

Arrival Day is the starting point for Orientation Week. During the one-week programme, a series of events offers the students an initial introduction to Lund University, student life and Swedish culture. In addition, they are provided with practical information. The programme also includes social and cultural activities and provides plenty of opportunities to mingle with both Swedish and other international students.

Approximately 100 employees and student workers at Lund University are involved in welcoming the international students throughout the day, and 200 international mentors make it possible to offer a personal and warm welcome to all international students through the mentoring program.

Nations, unions, other student organisations as well as external organisations such as AF Bostäder, Lund Municipality and the Police provide a good introduction to student life and life in Sweden during Orientation Week.
