Already on 6 September, the King’s House will open to the general public with an art exhibition On the Thresholds of Knowledge (link to lu.se), displaying works by thirteen international and local artists throughout the building. The exhibition is organised by Skissernas Museum – Museum of Artistic Process and Public Art, and the Inter Arts Centre, as part of Lund University’s 350th anniversary celebrations. Guided tours of the building’s history and future are also available on four days in September.
The University Archives will open a jubilee exhibition presenting the traces left by students, lecturers, teaching, academic feuds, buildings and academic ceremonies over 350 years - unique material which is seldom visible to the general public. A series of open talks will be organised alongside the exhibition, based on the archives and the variety of documents preserved there. Visitors will also be able to go on a guided tour of the exhibition.
Skissernas Museum – Museum of Artistic Process and Public Art offers an autumn exhibition showing well-known British artist Andy Goldsworthy’s work in Scandinavia for the first time.
What would a jubilee be without a proper birthday party? The celebration on 15 September for all students and staff at Lund University will take place in a cordoned-off Lundagård park with entertainment on a big stage.
The week will conclude with the annual Culture Night to which the University will make many and varied contributions. During the event, Sölvegatan, Vattenhallen Science Centre and the Botanical Garden will be transformed into a Science Trail (link to lu.se) – an inspiring science festival for the whole family. This will include a chemistry show, a physics and laser show, guided tours of the planetarium, film showings, opportunities to listen to popular science lectures and visits to the greenhouses in the Botanical Garden.
