Salma Kikhia, from Syria, is one of 26 international students in Sweden that will be awarded the prestigious title of Global Swede 2019 at a ceremony on 21 May.
Maria Björkqvist, vice dean at the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University, nominated Salma Kikhia for the Global Swede award:
“Salma Kikhia is from Syria, where she received her degree in medicine. She is currently studying the last semester of the Master’s programme in Public Health. Salma Kikhia passionately wants to use her background and knowledge in public health to create possibilities and improve the situation for people in her local area. She is engaged in the Swedish network for the Master’s programme in Public Health - SNHI and other volunteer organizations. She is also actively engaged in creating health promotional activities amongst migrants in Malmö. It is with great pleasure and pride that we nominate Salma Kikhia for the award, Global Swede.”
Global Swede is a joint initiative between the Swedish Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the purpose of this ceremony is to bring attention to international students and their role as ambassadors of Sweden, to enthuse and engage these students to maintain their relationship with Sweden and their university after completing their studies.
