What Palash says about the Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Palash from India – Alumni
What year did you graduate?
"I graduated from LTH (Faculty of Engineering) with a Master’s in Logistics and Supply Chain Management in May 2020."
What is your current job and where is it located?
"I work as a Need Planner at IKEA of Sweden in Älmhult, Sweden. Keeping it short and sweet, I sit at the heart of the supply chain for IKEA. I am responsible for making sure that IKEA reaches its’ product availability targets at stores and warehouses by planning the need for the upcoming 8 months and making sure that any deviations to this plan are mitigated."
How did you find your job and how long did it take?
"On one fine day when I was working on my Master’s thesis, I came across a LinkedIn Job post called Need Planner by IKEA. I applied, had 3 rounds of interviews, and got selected."
Favourite thing about your job?
"I have a global assignment for specific product families which means that for the products assigned to me, I am responsible for maintaining their availability in more than 400 stores around the world. Due to this, I also get to interact with a lot of stakeholders who are different from a professional as well as cultural perspective."
How are you changing the industry or the world (in a large or small way)?
"Since my Master’s thesis is in sustainability, I am trying to make an impact in the world by contributing with my knowledge in sustainability and giving input in the product development and design stage from a supply perspective. I do this to make the product sustainable, end to end, across the whole value and supply chain."
What was especially useful about the programme that you use in your everyday work?
"It goes without saying that with the depth in which supply chain concepts are taught in LTH (Faculty of Engineering), one can never go wrong with the fundamentals and basics. And of course, these fundamentals and basics form the foundation for a successful professional life."
What do you miss most from your time at Lund University/LTH (Faculty of Engineering)?
"What I miss the most at LTH from a study perspective are the different simulation labs, games and interactive sessions which completely changed the way we understand supply chain concepts. More practice, less theory, was an element that was profound during the entire course. Moreover, the collaboration which LTH and its professors have with the industry giants as part of the coursework, really helped all students to gain much more practical knowledge about applying the theory into practice.
From a social perspective, I miss the lively environment, job fairs, fun activities with friends on campus and of course the lovely food that you could get at Kårhuset."
